Some time ago, Microsoft purchased the Caligari corporation and released the trueSpace software for free. They've recently announced that they're stopping all support for the product and have hinted that the website may cease to exist entirely as of this Friday (May 22, 2009).
TrueSpace is a decent 3d program and I'm sad to see it go. It was heartening to see another competitor in the world of free software. There's still some hope that they'll release it as open source, but I'm not entirely convinced that Microsoft will let it go. They're currently urging anyone interested to download the installer and keep a copy in a safe place before the week is out. That tells me they too aren't convinced that going open source will happen.
